Company. IBM for the Job Accommodation Network, West Virginia University
Role. Lead Designer, Product Manager
Type. Web and Mobile Application
Project Description
The Job Accommodation Network (JAN), a non-profit organization residing on the campus of West Virginia University, contracted IBM to build a mobile application to help employees request accommodations in the workplace.
The Problem
The process of requesting workplace accommodations is confusing and can be daunting for employees as well as rehabilitation professionals. The Job Accommodation Network provides information that helps people to navigate the complicated system, but the process was all manual. JAN was overwhelmed.
Summary
I acted as the lead designer, running all design thinking exercises and research. This application touched many different roles and professions so we mapped out the stakeholders together.

I created personas for each of our target users and mapped out the architecture of the existing material.

The existing model of their website exposed the depth of information stored on multiple pages. That information had to be translated to mobile and we had the opportunity to create new relationships.

The resulting architecture created a more linear flow through the information, allowing the user to find the right information in context with their task.

I created a prototype in Adobe XD and tested with our sponsor users and other professionals in the industry.
